Building a Zero-Egress Private Cloud: Proxmox VE, SDN, and Ceph on Bare Metal

The Egress Trap and Cloud Repatriation Modern enterprises are realizing that the initial convenience of hyperscale public clouds often masks a critical financial pitfall: egress fees. Public cloud providers penalize data mobility by charging exorbitant fees for outbound data transfers. Transferring 100TB of data can easily add $5,000 to $9,000 to your monthly bill on top of compute and storage costs.

Repatriating workloads to a zero-egress enterprise private cloud built on dedicated bare metal servers offers the ultimate solution. By leveraging hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI), businesses achieve the flexibility of AWS or Azure with the cost predictability of fixed-rate dedicated servers.

Architecting Open-Source HCI To build a private cloud architecture that rivals hyperscalers, IT teams utilize a proven open-source stack:

  • Proxmox VE: A Type-1 hypervisor supporting KVM virtual machines and LXC containers managed through a single pane of glass.

  • Ceph: Transforms local NVMe drives across multiple physical servers into a self-healing, highly resilient shared storage pool.

  • Proxmox SDN: Orchestrates complex software-defined virtual networks, VXLANs, and EVPN setups to create isolated Virtual Private Clouds (VPCs).

Key Quorum Requirements A minimum of three dedicated servers is required to establish a reliable cluster quorum. This prevents "split-brain" scenarios during network partitions and ensures that if one physical node experiences hardware failure, VMs automatically migrate and restart on surviving nodes without data loss.

By utilizing EPY Host unmetered high-bandwidth bare metal servers, organizations transform variable OpEx into predictable OpEx, eliminating hyper-inflated cloud transfer margins forever.

How to Build a 10Gbps Intrusion Detection System using Suricata and AF_PACKET

Image
The Blindspot of Traditional Firewalls Hosting sensitive financial records, healthcare data, or enterprise applications on a dedicated server requires defense-in-depth. While standard firewalls like iptables or UFW effectively block unauthorized ports, they cannot inspect the actual contents of a packet. If an attacker sends an SQL injection or exploit payload over port 443 (HTTPS), a standard firewall will let it pass without inspection. To stop these deep-level threats, you need Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) via an Intrusion Detection System (IDS). The 10Gbps Packet Drop Problem In the past, running an IDS on high-bandwidth links was difficult. Older engines operated on a single thread using standard libpcap capture methods. On a 10Gbps link, copying every packet from kernel space to user space instantly maxes out CPU cores. The system begins dropping packets—and when an IDS drops packets, it becomes blind to attacks during high traffic bursts. The Solution: Suricata + AF_P...

Miami Dedicated Servers: The Ultimate Gateway to LATAM

Image
Why Enterprise IT is Localizing Hardware in Florida  When engineering network topologies for a user base spanning both North and South America, physical geography is the deciding factor for latency. Deploying infrastructure deep in South America can be costly and complex, while hosting in northern US states alienates LATAM users. The optimal solution? Miami, Florida. Opting for a bare metal dedicated server Miami deployment provides a massive tactical routing advantage. Situated at the primary submarine cable landing point for Latin America, Miami delivers sub-50ms ping times to Bogota and under 100ms to Sao Paulo, all while maintaining lightning-fast peering up the US Eastern Seaboard. At EPY Host, our Miami dedicated servers are fully customizable. Whether you need a cheap dedicated server miami setup for a small project, a massive Miami 10 gbps dedicated server for media streaming, or a robust GPU environment for AI, we provide the enterprise-grade foundation you need. Manila Bare Metal: The Philippines Hosting Advantage

Image
Why Enterprise IT is Localizing Hardware in Southeast Asia For years, Southeast Asian IT infrastructure has heavily favored hubs like Singapore and Hong Kong. However, as the digital economy in the Philippines continues its massive expansion, enterprise IT architects are recognizing the immense value of localizing their hardware. Today, Manila has firmly established itself as a strategic epicenter for APAC deployments. Opting for a dedicated server in the Philippines is a tactical routing advantage. Manila’s primary strength lies in its immediate integration with local Internet Exchanges, such as PHOpenIX. This localized peering ensures that a bare metal server can deliver content to domestic users instantly (often under 10ms), while simultaneously maintaining robust routing to neighboring countries like Taiwan and Singapore. Furthermore, hosting your physical infrastructure within the Philippines guarantees strict adherence to the Data Privacy Act of 2012 (DPA), ensuring sovereig...
